The Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Department of Computer Science marks its 23rd year

Twenty-three years ago, in May of 2000, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy established the Department of Computer Science. We are proud of the department’s exceptional work through the years, which resulted in major technical accomplishments. Today, the department holds a prominent position as one of Ukraine's leading IT departments. Led by Dean Andrii Hlybovets, and deputy-dean Andrii Afonin, in collaboration with their students, the department has launched the joint initiative CyberFI, actively countering russian cyberattacks and propaganda, and a program in collaboration with Dr. Serhiy Bogdanov, head of the NaUKMA Mental Health Center, to connect those who are suffering from the trauma of war to get quick assistance.

This year, it was reported that according to a major survey by Ain.ua, an online publication on IT, technology, and entrepreneurship, graduates of the Kyiv-Mohyla Department of Computer Science receive the highest salaries within Ukraine’s IT industry.

This year, the faculty and students decided to celebrate the department’s 23rd anniversary by arranging events to fundraise for Ukraine’s Armed Forces. You can access the lecture by the Department's dean and the interviews with KMA Alumni and events that were arranged during this campaign in an online format on the YouTube channel of the Department:

“I came to the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (KMA) already attracted by its values, For example, if you understand that giving bribes is not acceptable, and in your previous community it was considered as a way to live and survive, but then you join a community where nobody gives bribes, you realize that not giving bribes is actually cool. KMA did not change my values, but it allowed my values to develop and strengthen”
