NaUKMA Festival for entrants

Although the war in Ukraine is not over, many in the regions where active hostilities are not taking place choose to remain at home, trying to return to normality and help their country. Although life has changed for everyone, the educational process will resume this fall at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and new students will be entering the university as freshmen.

This year, orientation day was different than in previous years. It was personal, informal, and spontaneous.  The university hosted a festival for the incoming class to introduce them to student life. It was less official, but more like an interesting festival hosted by students for incoming students to introduce them to the university, to organizations, and various university departments.  Every student organization prepared a presentation to show their activity and achievements.

There were also a few lectures from some alumni. Among them were Kateryna Gornostai , faculty member at Mohyla School of Journalism, and renown Ukrainian film director, Lesyk Yakimchuk, founder of the “Linza Agency” production company and the “UA First Aid” charity fund), Vladyslav Grezev, founder of the social organization “Zminotvortsi”, and others.

Dr. Serhiy Kvit, NaUKMA president, commented that this year, the Student Fest is for students by students, unlike in previous years, when professors and administration took center stage.   “We are preparing for the coming academic year at the university. An admission campaign currently is going on. This time of war is a very important time for our university, for all Ukrainian universities, and for all Ukrainians.  We believe in our national armed forces. We believe in our victory. We believe in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Time passes, but Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is eternal!”, commented Dr. Kvit.

It was the students, not the teachers or administration officials, who shared their experience of life inside the university. Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is more than classes, exams, homework and studying. Life outside the classroom contributes to learning, emotional growth, and responsibility as much as some of those more traditional activities. That is why so many people showed up to welcome the new students.  Unfortunately, many lost family members in the war, lost their homes, and their parents lost their income.

 The Ukrainian government is focused on the war effort which affects the national budget, resulting in serious cuts to education. You can help students enter NaUKMA to get the best education for the future of Ukraine and help current students continue their studies, by making a donation to student scholarships. Welcome to the class entering in 2022 and graduating in 2026!
