Recipients of the Scholarships from Kyiv-Mohyla Foundations of the USA and Ukraine
Kyiv-Mohyla Foundations of Ukraine and the USA held a scholarship competition for 9 scholarships in November 2023. We are grateful to our donors, Bogdan and Vira Bodnaruk from the Ukrainian Language Society, Mrs. Zirka Voronka, Mr. Andriy Prykhodko, and the Ukrainian Medical Society of North America community, for supporting young KMA students, the next generation of leaders in Ukraine. These scholarships serve as great motivation and assistance for them.
The Foundations' team is inspired by each candidate who applied for the scholarship competition. Once again, we have seen that our students are proactive and talented!
We congratulate the selected scholarship recipients and are pleased to share their stories with you:
Vasyl Ovsiychk, a recipient of the scholarship from the Ukrainian Language Society, is a second-year student of the Philology program at KMA.
Vasyl is a proactive and creative student who has an exceptional passion for Ukrainian culture and mythology. He plans to work on a research project dedicated to these topics.
“I plan to create my student organization dedicated to Ukrainian mythology, and write a research paper on it. Ukraine's cultural heritage is immense, especially in terms of myths", says Vasyl. Our team is impressed by Vasyl's sincere interest in preserving Ukrainian roots. He shared with us: "Regarding the research paper, I plan to organize visits to various settlements in Ukraine (those that still preserve their traditions and beliefs) and compile collections of myths, stories, and analyze them”.
Nazarii Nikolaichuk, a recipient of the scholarship from the Ukrainian Language Society, is a fourth-year student of the Economics program at KMA.
Nazarii is a talented student with ambitious ideas and projects. He returned to Kyiv after participating in the academic exchange program, to continue his studies and develop his own educational project. This project aims to provide people with support in professional growth, from career guidance to acquiring new skills
"I see great potential in the social component of the project, which will also be aimed at assisting veterans", notes Nazarii.
Natalia Koval, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Professor Roman Voronka, is a second-year student of the Applied Mathematics program at KMA.
She is actively involved in supporting the Ukrainian army, also learning technologies, which will assist Ukrainian defenders.
"Apart from studying, I engage in volunteer activities – weaving camouflage nets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and undergoing a special course on constructing FPV drones, which are essential for the army now. I am very interested in the development of drones and modern technologies", says Natalia.
Hlib Kalinichev, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Professor Roman Voronka, is a first-year student of the master's Software Engineering program at KMA.
Hlib is a loyal KMA student and a talented professional. “I realized that Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has an exceptional level of education and an incredibly friendly community during my bachelor's degree. What is important, I can always rely on the support of this community”, he mentions. 2 years ago he graduated from the KMA with a bachelor's diploma with honors, and now he continues his education at KMA receiving a master's degree.
Anastasiia Bilichenko, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Professor Roman Voronka, is a second-year student of the International Relations program at KMA.
Anastasiia is a proactive student who is passionate about her field. She has already completed internships at the KMA Center for Social Transformations, KMA School of Political Analysis.
"Receiving this scholarship will serve both as a recognition of my efforts, and as an investment in my development and improvement. I will use this chance not only for my own benefit but also to play my part in the development of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", mentions Anastasiia.
Daria Kurbina, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Professor Roman Voronka, is a first-year student of the Cybersecurity program at KMA.
Daria demonstrates impressive academic achievements and personal qualities, also finding time for volunteer projects and initiatives.
In her motivational letter, Daria mentions: "For me, cybersecurity is not just about protecting companies or devices, but also about fighting against misinformation, fake news, and falsification". She adds: "I strive to improve my skills and knowledge to make a significant contribution to this field of cybersecurity in Ukraine".
Andriy Derkach, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Larysa Prykhodko, is a third-year student of the Economics program at KMA.
Andriy is a talented student who has already tried his hand at teaching courses in social entrepreneurship for school students. He has also been actively involved in the activity of the Society to Support the Defense of Ukraine and research project on the experiences of Ukrainians gained during the full-scale invasion, collecting data for Harvard University professor Daniil Mandich.
"I dream of reaching new heights in education and scientific research", shares Andriy.
Yana Protsak, a recipient of the scholarship in memory of Larysa Prykhodko, is a third-year student of the Economics program at KMA.
Yana has impressed us with her creativity. She is a co-creator of the exceptional projects including Unissued Diplomas, which honors the memory of students who lost their lives in the fight for Ukraine's freedom. She is also a member of several student organizations at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy: "Buddy KMA", "Mohyla Art Week", and "Spudey Brotherhood".
"I truly adore KMA for its community of students and faculty teachers. Everyone here has such a great passion that motivates me to create more and more", mentions Yana in her motivational letter.
Snizhana Kolomiets, a recipient of the scholarship from the Ukrainian Medical Society of North America, is a fourth-year student in the Sociology program at KMA.
She already actively participates in research activities, particularly with the distinguished professor Tamara Marcheniuk.
"I was incredibly fascinated by the process of conducting a real sociological study and the opportunity to become part of the academic community of my university",shares Snizhana.
