Dr. Tamara Martseniuk, Ph.D., is a Ukrainian sociologist who teaches at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and is a gender expert at the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union. She began her academic path at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as a student, and after graduation in 2004, she studied and conducted research in the US, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, and Hungary.
She authored more than 100 academic publications, chapters of books and textbooks, particularly in Ukrainian: Gender for All: Challenging Stereotypes (2017), Why Not Be Afraid of Feminism (2018), Defenders of the Galaxy: Power and Crisis in the Male World (2020). She authored chapters in Gender, Politics, and Society in Ukraine (2012), New Imaginaries: Youthful Reinvention of Ukraine’s Cultural Paradigm (2015), and more. Her courses at KMA include such subjects as Introduction to Gender Studies, Gender and Politics, Masculinity and Men's Studies, Social Issues in Ukraine and the World and more.
Dr. Tamara Martseniuk is an active participant in various research or social projects. One of her most significant projects is the "Invisible Battalion" (2015-2023) – a series of five sociological studies on the integration of women into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Feminist Emma Goldman (1869-1940) is considered one of the most important figures of the early peace movement. In recognition of her legacy, there are two annual awards given to selected candidates resident in Europe for their outstanding achievements and contributions to research on feminism and inequality.
