KMA Welcomed New Students. Serhii Zhadan and Yaryna Chornohuz, Renowned Ukrainian Poets, greeted the freshmen.

We celebrate the new academic year at KMA with hope and pride for the next generation of Ukrainian leaders. This year more than 1900 new students entered studies at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy!

On August 30, we marked this moment with the Initiation Ceremony for freshmen. Serhii Kvit, KMA president, and Serhii Zhadan, a renowned Ukrainian poet, singer and member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, sent greetings for the students in a special video:

Moreover, Yaryna Chornohuz, KMA Alumna, member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian poet, who was awarded the Shevchenko National Prize last year, visited the Ceremony to deliver a greeting speech.

On September 1, David Rieff, an American nonfiction writer and policy analyst, who has published articles in newspapers and journals including The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Le Monde and more, delivered a special opening speech on campus. This is an enduring tradition at KMA. The previous year, the eminent historian Dr. Serhii Plokhy, Director of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, delivered an opening lecture for the freshman class.
