Contributing to Education for a Democratic Ukraine
Dear Donors and Friends,
It is a true pleasure to share that, in the past few months, we have successfully raised funds to support several significant projects initiated by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its alumni, the "Mohyliantsi." During these challenging times, the war has revealed the resilience and strength of the human spirit, both in fundraising and in defending the values that unite us.
We are deeply inspired by the generosity of our donors, each of whom stands as a defender of Ukraine. Your support has been crucial, and we would like to highlight some of the impactful projects we have achieved together.
With sincere and heartfelt appreciation, we thank all our donors and friends for standing with us.

Academy of Victories
Support for the Kyiv-Mohyla Veterans and Defenders Center
A fundraising project to honor members of the Kyiv-Mohyla community who lost their lives during the war was dedicated to supporting the Veterans Center for Education and Psychological Rehabilitation, which opened in September. Yana Chapailo, director of the Center, stated, “Our goal is to help our veteran men and women realize their potential and aspirations through education, research, and collaboration.”
The initiative successfully raised $23,650 USD, which will fund four scholarships named after artist Nikita Titov, who designed the "Academy of Victories" logo, and Dr. Yuriy Gorodnichenko, Dr. Iryna Dronova, and Vasyl Kuchernyuk, in recognition of their generosity.
Fundraising and awareness events were held at Berkeley University, the Ukrainian Culture Center in Los Angeles, and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago. Auctions of Nikita Titov’s artwork were featured at these events to support the cause.
UA First AID
In September 2024, we reached out to the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (Illinois Division) for urgent support in providing blood transfusion kits to field hospitals on the front lines. In just one week, an impressive $5,250 USD was raised by the UMANA Foundation and UMANA Illinois, covering the cost of 100 blood transfusion kits. These funds were immediately sent and the kits swiftly delivered to where they were needed most. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Maryana Yaremko and Dr. Maria Hrycelak for their unwavering support and prompt response to this critical need.
We are proud to share that the project UA First Aid was founded at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy by faculty members and alumni immediately after the attack on Ukraine in March 2022. Since that time, Lesyk Yakymchuk and his team have been leading the fundraising, logistics, and delivery of tactical medical help to the front. In the past, Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation supported supplies of first aid kits.
Partnerships and Gifts for Victories
Tactical medical kits and other essential supplies were delivered to the 93rd Brigade "Kholodnyj Yar," specifically to the Black Raven Battalion, through a collaboration between Help Heroes of Ukraine and UA First Aid at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. A total of $5,187 USD was raised for these items, thanks to Marta Farion's online birthday appeal for donations. The project was expertly managed by Roman Zabalatovskyj and Volodymyr Olenskyj from Help Heroes of Ukraine in the U.S., and Les Yakymchuk from UA First Aid in Ukraine.
We encourage others to consider earmarking donations for meaningful causes in place of gifts on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, or other celebrations.
In addition to this support, Marta Farion won a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV in a lottery at Uketoberfest in Chicago. She generously donated the vehicle to Help Heroes of Ukraine, who then passed it on to Revived Soldiers Ukraine. This organization, based in Kyiv, has been instrumental in providing healthcare for severely wounded soldiers, including those from Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
Save Education – Project savED
The Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation, in partnership with the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (Illinois Division), hosted a successful fundraising event for the savED Foundation, raising $13,500 USD. savED is a charitable organization founded in Ukraine in October 2022 by Anna Novosad, an alumna of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and former Minister of Education of Ukraine (2019-2020). With support from donors and international funds, savED has restored schools destroyed by Russian missile bombings and built new ones in areas where children had no schools to attend. We take great pride in the values and efforts of Anna Novosad and her team, many of whom are alumni of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and other Ukrainian universities.
We are also very grateful for the generosity of Motria Melnyk, President of the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, for providing the beautiful venue for the event. Special thanks go to the key funders: the Heritage Foundation and its president, Taras Drozd; Selfreliance Foundation and Selfreliance Federal Credit Union, represented by Vitaliy Kutniy and Bohdan Watral; UCCA Illinois Division and its president, Maria Dmytriv; St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church and its supportive pastor, Mykola Buryadnyk; as well as the many individuals who contributed that evening.
Individual Leadership Trajectory
A project for Kids who lost their loved ones or their homes in the war
In September 2024, the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation successfully raised $42,000 USD to provide tuition for 42 children, ages 15-17, who have lost loved ones and homes due to the war. These children, classified as “internally displaced,” are the sons and daughters of Ukraine’s military members who have lost their lives or been wounded. The funds will enable them to participate in a special Leadership and Self-Reflection program at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
We are profoundly grateful to our generous U.S. donors for their unwavering support. To honor their contributions, we have publicly acknowledged their names on social media. You can view the full list of donors at this link: https://pro.ukma.edu.ua/our-partners.
The certificate program, titled “Individual Leadership Trajectory,” is conducted through the Kyiv-Mohyla School of Continuing Professional Education, led by Professor Tetyana Nagornyak, who also serves as the program's director.
