Since its re-establishment in 1991, the accomplishments of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy have been impressive. By any measure, because of these accomplishments, and as a result of the commitment by faculty, students and administrators, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has re-emerged as a premier university of Ukraine.
With the support of academic innovators such as Dr. Viacheslav Bryukhovetsky, who led the rebirth of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with a courageous team of faculty and administrators, students have been able to enjoy the highest level of education and international academic engagement.
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy leads the country’s reforms in higher education through innovative programs. We established the first curriculum based on western standards and equivalency through a three-tiered system of degree programs: Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. The list of programs and innovations is too vast to include in this brief message, but it is worth listing a few examples unique in a post-Soviet country, such as Public Health, Social Work, Media Journalism, Political Analysis, the Institute of Sociology among others. The university is also the only institution of higher learning to offer a Master’s degree in Archeology and the only one in the country offering Marine Archeology. The Kyiv-Mohyla Library, which is comprised of numerous specialized libraries and archives is considered the most contemporary library in Ukraine.
We also established the first Employment Placement Office and the first University Alumni Association in the country. A major university initiative is also the Electronic Library of Ukraine, established to bring access to the world’s academic digital information to Ukraine’s universities.

In spite of the various successes, it is important that our progress continues. We must support the younger generation of Ukrainians who strive for a better future for themselves and their families in a democratic country based on ethical standards and the rule of law. The tradition of academic excellence that was the hallmark of the University in 1615 and throughout its history is the standard that we must continue to maintain. That is why our mission is to continually reinforce our commitment to the highest international standards and to instill a culture of ethics, integrity and respect for the individual.
National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is in a position to continue to provide leadership in the process of Ukraine’s integration into a global community and accelerate the transition into democracy, transparency and a participatory civil society. Ukraine needs equitable and transparent reform and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy plays an indispensible role in this process. In spite of many challenges, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy continues to fulfill its mission to educate Ukraine’s future generation of leaders.
We have established a comprehensive strategic plan that will guide Kyiv-Mohyla Academy to even greater achievements in the upcoming years. Its goal is to continuously improve administrative and management functions, to develop a major research capability, and to raise academic standards by recruiting outstanding faculty and providing incentives to encourage students and researchers to succeed.
Our goals are specific and achievable, and can be accomplished with your support. We ask you to join us in this task.
