A scholarship fund for young women to study journalism at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) School of Journalism was established by the Kyiv Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International in memory of Marta Kolomayets (1959-2020), with an initial donation of $2,000. The announcement was made by Vera Eliashevsky and Yuriy Figel, co-chairs of the Committee.

Marta Kolomayets was a long-time member of the Kyiv Committee of the Chicago Sister Cities International Program. From 2013 to 2020, she served as Director of the Fulbright Program in Ukraine. Ms. Kolomayets was on the staff of The Ukrainian Weekly from January 1982 to November 1984 and then again from February 1988 through December 1996. She earned a master’s degree in journalism (1981) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

She left a lasting legacy as a journalist, mentor, and dedicated herself to building an independent democratic Ukraine, supporting the rule of law and civil society.  All who wish to donate to this Scholarship Fund please send contributions to the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and make sure you mark it is for the Marta Kolomayets Scholarship Fund.
