Ukraine has established a new type of award in journalism – The Georgiy Gongadze Award. The founders of the award are the Ukrainian PEN, the Alumni Association of the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper.

The Georgiy Gongadze Award is intended to support those journalists who follow the principles and values of independent journalism; who demonstrate professionalism, competence, and innovation; who create materials that contribute to solving or understanding the problems in society and changes in the country, as well as making a significant contribution to the development of the media.

The winners of the Award will be determined by a nomination process, followed by voting by members of the 9-member Jury of the Georgiy Gongadze Award. The jury will consist of members of the Gongadze family, representatives of the Ukrainian PEN, the Alumni Association of the Kyiv-Mohyla Business School, and the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper; as well as prominent media experts, public figures and intellectuals.
