Because of the generous support of donors, Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation sponsored the KMA Law School Team in its participation in the Central and Eastern European Moot Competition. The team included four members (Iryna Fonotova, Oleksii Masniev, Liliia Lavrichenko and Dmytro Derkach) and two coaches (Liliia Slobodian and Liliya Makhynko).
The team successfully submitted the memorandum on behalf of both Applicant and Respondent and proceeded to the Oral Rounds, which were held in Wroclaw, Poland. The Kyiv-Mohyla team was the only one from a non-EU country that scored high enough to proceeded to the semi-finals. The team won several oral rounds and took 7th place overall.
The Competition included a panel of judges who are considered some of the most outstanding experts of European Union law, including Eleanor Sharpstone and Michal Bobek (Advocate Generals of the Court of Justice of the European Union), Alexander Kornezov and Khrystyna Lowalik-Banczyk (Judges of the CJEU), Professor Rosa Greaves of the University of Glasgow. The team received many positive comments from other teams and judges, and obtained priceless experience and knowledge.
Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation has continuously funded the law school’s moot court teams that compete at the Jessup Competition in Washington DC, and the European Court of Human Rights. The Kyiv-Mohyla Law School Moot Court teams represent Ukraine at such competitions.
