On November 22, 2018, the Parliament of Ukraine approved the nomination of Oksana Markarova to serve as minister of finance. As acting minister, Ms. Markarova successfully negotiated Ukraine’s latest installment of financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund.
Oksana Markarova is a graduate of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with a degree in Ecology. She also has a master’s degree from Indiana University in International Public Financing and Trade. Her government work includes her tenure as acting minister of finance under Minister Natalie Jaresko. Her private sector experience includes key positions at the investment group ITT, and at Horizon Capital. In her role as acting minister, Ms. Markarova initiated the establishment of UkraineInvest, an initiative to spearhead investments, and as part of the national reform efforts undertaken in the ministry, she initiated the largest portal of open e-Data in the sector of public financing.
Oksana Markarova is a member Kyiv Mohyla Academy Advisory Board. Her commitment to her Alma Mater is apparent in her presentations to students at university events, and the continuous sponsorship of the Academy’s fundraising efforts, where she and her husband are major donors.
