Rostyslav Pavlenko, Deputy Head of Presidential Administration, has been appointed Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies. Mr. Pavlenko has been in charge of ecclesiastic matters in the Presidential Administration. “For me, the receipt of the Tomos is the zenith of a very difficult task because it is linked to national security”, stated Mr. Pavlenko.
Among all his other responsibilities, he has led the negotiations about the recognition of autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox church known as Tomos, the independence for the Ukrainian Church. As Ukraine’s Orthodox Church goes its separate way, Moscow finds that it lost its grip over Ukraine. That is why ecclesiastical independence is of major historical significance.
Rostyslav Pavlenko graduated from National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” specializing in political science. He joined the faculty of the university and eventually became the chairman of the political science department. Despite his tight schedule he manages to find time to visit the university for presentations and he is a steadfast supporter. “I’ve decided to visit Kyiv-Mohyla [Academy] because speaking to the new generation of colleagues gives me inspiration, because talking over your experience is always useful, because I believe that an alumnus has to support his Alma Mater in every way he can, and simply because I’m always glad to come the Academy, to be among the Mohyliantsi!” , Mr. Pavlenko explained.
