Anne Applebaum, journalist, historian, author, received an Honorary Doctorate at National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy at a packed university auditorium with over 750 students, many of whom asked excellent informed questions after her lecture based on her book, Red Famine, about the Holodomor, the Famine Genocide caused by Soviet policy in 1932-1933.

Ms. Applebaum’s visit to Ukraine included the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy fundraising event at Kyiv Art Arsenal, a press conference, book presentation, and meetings with media and civil society reformers, and members of the executive and legislative branches of government. Ms. Applebaum also held an extensive private meeting with Ukraine’s President Poroshenko.

We are grateful to Ms. Applebaum, who took time out of her busy schedule to come to support Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Congratulations to Anne Applebaum on the international success of her book and on receiving an Honorary Doctorate at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
