Yuriy M. Bazhal, head of the Kyiv Mohyla Department of Economic Theory, was awarded Ukraine’s 2012 National Award in Research and Technology for his academic work published as, “Implementation of Strategy for Innovative Development Based on New Algorithms in Management”. Ukraine’s President Victor Yanukovych announced the award in a Presidential Decree dated May 16, 2013. Dr. Bazhal has been recognized for his contribution to the theory and practice of innovations management, and to the development of a state innovation policy.
Yuriy Bazhal was born in Odessa in 1950. In 1971 he graduated from Odessa State Economics University. His background includes work at the Economics Institute of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic Academy of Sciences since 1988, and at the Institute of Economic Forecasting of National Academy of Science of Ukraine during 1997-1999. He has been a faculty member at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy since 1994, and from 2000 he was the head of Economic Theory Department. During 2000-2006 he was the Dean of Faculty of Economic Sciences (Department of Economics).
Professor Yuriy M. Bazhal has a doctorate in economics. He is a renowned member of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, author of over 160 publications, among them 14 individual and collective monographs and 5 text books, numerous publications endorsed by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, and many articles in leading international and Ukrainian academic journals.
In the past, he was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Academy of Sciences in 1984, the Award of Honor by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine in 2004, and many others. For his work in education and research, he was awarded the highest fellowship named for Vadym Hetman fromRaiffeisen Bank Avalfor three consecutive years (2006-2009).
He is a member of the editorial boards of leading economic journals, such as “Economics and Prognosis”, “Bulletin of the National Bank of Ukraine’, “Economic Theory”, “Intellectual Property”, “Research Papers of NaUKMA – Economics Series”.
Kyiv Mohyla School of Economics was established in the year 2000. The current dean is Natalia Ivanova, Candidate of Economics, Docent. The School includes three departments: Economic Theory, Finance, Marketing, and Business Management. The school includes 30% faculty with doctorates and 60% faculty who are doctoral candidates. The majority of faculty members studied abroad in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain. They bring current teaching methods and scholarly information to the university.
